This blog has a history. What originally started as a blog about things to do in Seattle and about getting activated in the city where you live morphed into what is now The World is Fun – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on getting those in their 20′s and 30′s involved in their community — and having fun doing so!
Through the archives you will see the posts that made TWIF what it is today but keep in mind this all originally started as a personal blog. Here’s my original thoughts on what this blog was:
“I am always amazed and dismayed when I meet someone over the age of twenty that has never traveled outside their home state.
I grew up viewing America through the rectangular window atop a motor home where I would spend mile after mile taking in the sights. Listening to the same cassette tape over and over on the Sony Walkman I purchased with my allowance, I would experience America one city at a time, dreaming of life, and fantasizing about revisiting and the other places I would travel to as an adult while my parents were below living out the travel fantasies they once had.
Our lives are a series of experiences. Those experiences then become who we are. Travel creates those experiences and creates us. It opens us up to new things and permits us to learn about others as we grow ourselves.
Traveling is not about spending thousands of dollars and heading for the most luxurious destination – its about creating experiences outside your doors – whether its an unexplored area down the street from your home or on the other side of the world.
As a new resident of Seattle, I am sure much of my early content will evolve around Seattle and the surrounding areas. I urge others with information to share, or who wish to contribute, to contact me.
I look forward to everyone’s comments and I hope you enjoy.”
