Rainy. Gray. Chilly.
The quintessential Seattle day. Which makes me want to crawl into a little ball and lay under my covers and also go out and do something that’s quintessentially Seattley at the same time. Since this little opposing conundrum isn’t possible- for the sake of the TWIF blog I’ll choose the latter and let you know what I’m planning.
Lots of things come to mind when I brainstorm Seattle-esque things. Coffee. Umbrellas. Pike Place. Guys in skinny jeans.
What also stands out to me is music. There’s an abundance of great music that both comes to the city and was born in the city. After scoping out some of this weekend’s options (while considering my small budget) I’m extremely excited to have purchased two tickets to the Purple Haze show at Tractor Tavern in Ballard. As we all know, the late and great Jimi is a Seattleite who’s one of the greatest rockers of all time. Now, while I can see his awesome guitars at the EMP, I unfortunately can’t see Jimi play them. Insert Purple Haze, easily the next best thing. Hailed as one of the greatest Jimi Hendrix tribute bands of all time, Ralph Woodsen (who fronts the band) can even play the guitar behind his back AND with his teeth. Seriously worth my 12$ in itself.
The show starts at 9pm on Friday and is 21+. Likely not an issue for you TWIFfers out there. Here’s a little snippet from Purple Haze performing one of my favorite Jimi Hendrix songs.
And because it’s seriously outrageous, here’s a video of Ralph doing the whole “yea it’s not big deal, I can play the guitar behind my back” trick.
And one of him doing the “my dentist says it’s fine if I want to play the guitar with my teeth” bit. Skip to minute 5 if you’re in a hurry, but I suggest watching the whole thing just because it’s pretty awesome.

Since you’re obviously going to be up for Round 2 of Seattley adventures on Saturday night, pencil in “Attend Beard and Stache Fest Opening Reception” into your agenda. We’re kicking off the celebration at 8pm at Blue C Sushi in Fremont and are expecting a huge turn out. You’ll be able to see all 150 fuzzy faces adorning their respective collection cans- a one time only opportunity. So come, eat some sushi, say hi to some friendly faces, and get ready for a fun-filled event!
